Sailors Drown Dragons in Rematch
On Dec 15th, the Jr Sailors Peewee LL2 team travelled to Dorchester to take the #2 Dragons team in their 2nd meeting of the season.  Coming off 2 straight games without a victory, the Jr Sailors were determined to get a win under their belts.  They team put together a solid game at both ends of the ice, dominating the game for several stretches, on route to a 3-1 victory and their 2nd victory over the #2 Dragons from Dorchester.

Port Stanley came out of the gate flying, and were skating hard, and playing aggressive hockey.  Only 3mins into the game, Ryan Meth stole the puck from a Dorchester player, and rang a shot off the crossbar.  As forward Evan Spangenberg chased down the rebound, he collided with the back of a Dorchester player and was assessed a penalty for hitting from behind and a game misconduct.  The Jr Sailors had to continue on without a key contributor up front, and all the forwards seemed to elevate their games to compensate for the loss of Evan.  Forwards Ryan Daer & “Captain” Steven Calles put forward one of their best efforts of the season, and although they didn’t show up on the score sheet, their strong play helped to hem the Dragons deep in their zone for long stretches of the game.  Late in the first period, Ryan Meth put Port Stanley on the board with a low wrist shot that eluded the Dorchester goalie.  Early in the 2nd period, Morgan Palmer built upon that lead with a quick wrist shot from the point that trickled past a stunned Dorchester goalie.  Ryan Meth rounded out a terrific game with his 2nd goal early in the 3rd period while killing a penalty.  Despite giving up a late goal to Dorchester, on an unlucky blueline bounce, the Jr Sailors dug in defensively to get themselves back into the win column.

Next up for Port Stanley is a home game against St Marys to start the Christmas holiday.  The game will be followed by a team Christmas lunch upstairs at the rink.
