Woulda Coulda Shoulda!!
The Atom Sailors were up to their old tricks tonight in their battle with the Lambeth Lancers.  Once again the sailors opened the scoring in the game as Tyson B continued to put his magic stick to good use as he buried a hard shot high over the goalies' glove!!  In the defensive end Hunter R was a master in the net as he tracked down shot after shot and kept the Sailors in the game allowing only one goal in a period where he faced a barrage of shots as the Lancers controlled much of the play. The first period ended with the score tied and the Sailors hoping to muster more offense as the second period began.

Unfortunately for the Sailors their luck around the net from their trip to West Lorne followed them home and they could not finish any of their many scoring chances in the second period, while the Lancers found the mark two more times, ending the period leading 3-1.  Despite the score the Sailors had battled hard through two periods of play and were well within striking distance of one of the better teams in the league, and with another period of hard work anything could happen.

Once again the Lancers came out flying and Hunter R and the defense battled hard with Nick K moving the puck up and out with authority, Sully H clearing the puck from the front of the net keeping the score at 3-1 for as long as they could.  With the time ticking away it looked as though another strong effort would not be rewarded until a pretty pass from Evan G sent Brady L loose and he streaked up the left side of the ice and fired a hard shot on net that was too much for the Lancer goalie to handle...3-2!  But the Lancers answered right back with a marker of their own to restore their two goal lead at 4-2.  The sailors were resilient though and turned the tide on the Lancers and kept them pinned in their own end for a long stretches and were rewarded when Evan R fired a hard shot on net that the keeper couldn't handle and Hunter G neatly tucked in the rebound to close the gap to 1 goal with 4 minutes to play.

After a flurry of activity the puck bounced out onto the stick of Junior C and he wasted no time getting his shot off and tieing the game at 4 with only just over a minute left to play.  With the momentum in the Sailors favour they flew all over the ice for the remainder of the game and created multiple chances in a very short period of time, Jake P flew up the ice past the defenders and fired a shot that looked to beat the Lancer goalie on the short side and the Sailors erupted in celebration as they seemed to seal the victory with just 20 seconds left, but as the players and fans cheered the man in stripes waved off the goal.  Despite the disappointment the sailors can hold their heads high as they held the Lancers to just four goals on the defensive end and came roaring back to secure the tie in the third.  With that kind of effort every night the sailors will be a tough test for any team and they will soon be rewarded for their effort.  Keep up the great work boys!  See you at the rink!
