Close but yet so Far!!
In the much anticipated rematch between the Sailors and the Bruins after their wild shootout in Blenheim the Sailors came out flying as they have in the last three games scoring early in the game to set the tone for the evening.  Jake P converted on a pass from Ryan H and Tyson B in front of the net; after being denied on his first attempt he deftly tucked the rebound passed the goalie not giving up on the play.  Following that early marker the rest of the period saw back and forth action with Hunter R holding his own and closing the door on the Bruins to keep the Sailors up by 1 after 1 period of play.

Hungry for their first win of the season the Sailors once again put the pressure on the Bruins in the second period of play and were rewarded when Steven H jumped on a loose puck that floated out to the blue line and fired a low hard shot that found its way past the crowd all the way to the back of the net.  The hard shot was hopefully a sign of things to come as the Sailors have embarked on their 5,000 puck challenge!  Unfortunately the Bruins answered right back with a tally of their own on a great solo effort that Hunter R had no chance on.  The resilient Sailors kept the pressure up and quickly restored their two goal lead as Hunter G tucked the puck into the net just before the Bruin netminder got his pad across to kick it out.  Fortunately the referee was in the right place and the Sailors, who have been bitten by goals being disallowed this season, would not be burned by a poor call.  With the Sailors once again up by 2 and the defensive corps playing strong at both ends of the ice it looked as though the Sailors would cruise along for their first win of the season and then the bounce!!  On a dump in by the Bruins the puck was deflected and strangely found its way into the net.  The Bruins would add another and complete the comeback and with no further scoring in the third the game would end with another point and opportunity lost for the Sailors as a game they could have won slipped away.

The defense (Steven H, Nick K, Evan G, Sully H and Brady L) was a very bright spot for the Sailors on this night as they held their opposition to just 3 goals and did a great job on the offensive end maintaining pressure and getting shots towards the net.   On the front end Ryan H and Robert S created many chances tonight making great passes and winning battles throughout the game.  Creeping closer and closer to their first win if the Sailors can remember to move the puck sooner and to stop stickhandling in traffic there is no doubt they will break through!

The Sailors are back in action tomorrow with the journey to the Metropolis of Centralia to take on the South Huron Sabres.  Keep your stick on the ice and your eye on the puck and good things will happen.  See you at the rink!
