Sailors can't Catch a Break
The Atom Sailors made the journey to the sleepy town of West Lorne on Sunday afternoon to take on the Comets and feast on the culinary delights of the province's best Arena food!  The sailors came out swinging with and impressive end to end rush by Evan G as he danced around the Comet defenders and tucked the puck past the goalie on the shorty side with a nifty shot!  The Comets quickly answered with a blistering shot on their set cherry pick play that continued to confound the Sailors D all game long.  After the Comets netted their second a short while later the Sailors tied it up when Tyson B jumped on a loose puck and buried it in the back of the net ending a strong period of play with the score tied a two apiece.

The second period saw the Sailors fighting hard against both the Comets and the men in stripes as the Comets popped two more in and the refs chose not to watch the net as the Sailors appeared to score a marker of their own only to have the game continue with the refs oblivious to the goal.

The Sailors came out determined in the third to close the Comet's two goal lead and while they were able to keep pressure in the offensive zone they couldn't seem to find the net or get a bounce when it mattered.  A lucky bounce on a centering pass from behind the net saw the Comets increase their lead to three with half of the third period remaining as the resilient sailors continued to work hard to try and close the gap.  Finally after so many close calls the sailors snuck one by the Comet tender on a hard shot from the point by Nick K which was expertly tipped in by Ryan H.

With two minutes remaining the Sailor coaching staff, hoping for some of that Blenheim magic, once again pulled out all the stops and went with six attackers to try and claw their way back into the game.  On this night it was not meant to be as the Sailors luck around the net continued and each opportunity either missed the net or hit something before getting to the goal.  At only 25 seconds remaining the Comets solidified their win as they popped in one last marker to cement their win and the final score of 6-3.

Once again the Sailors played well enough to beat a strong opponent but just couldn't overcome the bad bounces, bad reffing and some good goaltending to get the win.  Wednesday night the Sailors will return to the cosy confines of Port Stanley arena to take on the Lambeth Lancers.  With an effort like tonight and a few more bounces the Lancer's should find the Sailors to be a formidable opponent.  Remember boys, Keep your stick on the ice, shoot it Hard and good things will happen!!  See you at the rink.
