Port Stanley PeeWee LL#2 Tartan Tournament Champions
Our Port Stanley Sailors Peewee LL#2 team went the distance this past weekend at the 2014 Southwest Bullets Tartan Tournament in Glencoe, providing their fans with a story worthy of a Hollywood motion picture, and rounded out the weekend by clinching the tournament's top prize....2014 Tartan Tournament Champions.

Their first game was against Wallaceburg, who turned out to be a formidable opponent, and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.   Knowing they needed to step up their next game, the boys brought their "A game" in the second round against the tournament’s home team – the Southwest Bullets, where they recorded a 5-3 win.

In the 3rd game, we saw the fatigue effects from the previous 2 games starting to take its toll on the boys, and in a sobering 4-1 loss against Dorchester, they started to feel like their tournament may be coming to an end.  Other contenders also started having struggles in the 3rd round, but in the end, the Hockey Gods shone down on our Port Stanley Sailors and they ended up advancing to Sunday’s Semi-Final rounds by a 1 goal differential. Now with some much needed rest under their belts, the boys fought hard and strong in their Semi-Final game against Mt Brydges and recorded a 3-2 victory advancing them to the tournament finals.

With only enough time for a Zamboni and a quick rehydration break, our Sailors were right back on the ice to face the undefeated Dorchester team once again.  After some questionable calls from the officials, the boys found themselves down 1-0 but with the attitude and determination to never give up the entire team dug deep and came back to take the final game in a 3-1 victory, securing the tournament's top prize, Tartan Tournament Champions.

Congratulations boys on this awesome accomplishment, and your ability to play with the hearts of champions.  What an amazing ride!!!

Go Sailors!!!
