Sailors tame Cougers
On a frigid night more suitable for sitting at home in front of a fire the Sailors made the quick journey to Mount Brydges to face the Cougers.  The cold temperatures would not slow the Sailors as they came out flying and took it to the Cougers for most of the first period and held strong against their counter attacks.  With no scoring the Sailors would enter the second frame with a spring in their step and the belief that they could play with this top team in the Shamrock standings!

The second period started fast and furious with the Cougers attacking the Sailors but Hunter R. stood tall in the net and made great saves to keep the Cougers off the board.  Just when it looked like the Sailors might crack Even R. found Ryan H. with a beauty pass that was tipped up to Tyson B. who made no mistake as he took the Couger defender wide and fired the shot past the surprised netminder!  The Sailors battled hard and kept the cougers off the scoreboard for the rest of the period.

With the Sailors up 1-0 the Cougers came out flying in the third and once again Hunter R. turned aside all attempts on net.  The Cougers would not be denied however and managed to slip one past the Sailor keeper on a misdirection that had him moving the wrong way and left no time for recovery.  With the score now tied the Sailors kept working and masterfully killed off a couple of penalties that threatened to derail them.  Defensive fill in Nick K. and Sully worked well together keeping the puck away from the net and the tandem of Brady L. and Evan G. were solid throughout the game but especially in the final minutes as their efforts ensured the point for the deserving Sailors.

The effort in tonight's game was excellent as the players stepped up against a very strong team and showed that they can compete with and beat any team in this league.  With the Playdowns looming it is clear the boys are moving in the right direction and with this type of effort they will push any team to the brink and could just surprise a few too!

See you at the rink!!!
